I am a complete novice, I know nothing about TV setup. Basically I have a TV in a room with no aerial socket. However, it does have a dish cable coming in through the window as I think the previous owner must have had sky.
The dish cable is split into two cables. I understand that you cannot use a dish to receive Freeview as it is aerial only. However, I also read on here that someone did setup Freeview using an old sky dish by simply putting one of the two coax cables into the TV fashioning a "crude aerial"? I tried the same thing, i put one of the two dish cables into the TV and I did pick up Freeview, though at such poor quality that a significant amount of channels were not watchable.

Is this what would be expected or could I achieve a better signal using this? The other option that I can see is to get a Freesat box which may work with the dish? I would want a basic box simply to view TV.

Bryando Forumite 1. I am thinking of gettinbg Freesat soon. Has anybody got this? I plan for the Freesat plus box inc HD. It would save lots as currently pay Sky. Got a Sky plus box at the moment. However the Freesat appears good and the box has the same functions as Sky plus.
Inactive Forumite OK, so only the former offers any decent films in HD. We are going down the same route after cancelling Virgin cable. Always ask the neighbourhood Hammyman PPR 9.

Now Dave is on Freesat, I am considering one or the other. Freesat also offers more channels but most of the channels that seem worth watching appear on both. It also seems that Freesat has more available bandwidth for future channels. What do you think? Aug 21, at PM 2. I have Freesat because initially Freeview was very poor in my area. Now I have access to both, well honestly the difference between the two services feels slight to me.
I'd say they're very much interchangeable at the moment. Aug 21, at PM 3. Thank you.
I totally agree that many of the features that separate them have gone. One thing that did interest me was that Freesat HD sound is apparently more compatible with older AV amps like I have. Aug 22, at AM 4. I have used both and wouldn't pay to have Freesat installed unless there was something wrong with my Freeview service. It has more potential to carry HD channels but that would have happened already if it was going to happen and it's a bit of a 'So what?
Aug 22, at PM 5. I prefer Freesat but I wouldn't pay to have a dish put up for it, however the dish was already there soHome What's new Latest activity Authors. Forums New posts Search forums. The only downside to Freesat is depending on where the satellite dish is sited, you may get signal loss when it pours down with rain and water is running down the dish. Dec 27, at PM 4.
