Demon Slayer Preview No Spoilers Tanjiro was just a normal teen living with his large family in Taisho-era Japan until a powerful demon murders most of his relatives and turns his sister Nezuko into a demon as well. Throughout his travels, he meets senior members of the organization like Shinobu, the flippant Insect Pillar of the Hashira team of advanced demon slayers. Can Tanjiro and his allies defeat their mysterious foe, who is rumored to be the most powerful demon who ever lived?
The Hashira are known for their flashy sense of style, but Shinobu outdoes them all with her gorgeous butterfly wing haori and subtle two-toned hair. Both her hair clip and sword hilt also incorporate butterfly imagery, and even her movements in battle resemble the insect in flight. Her voice also never strays from an even, lilting tone, making her threats in battle all the more terrifying.
The only time this mask cracks is when Tanjiro mentions that she seems angry for some reason. On top of being a poisonous arbiter of death, Shinobu is also an accomplished healer who runs her own rehab center that nurses injured demon slayers back to full health.
Her apprentices all of whom wear their own variations of her butterfly hair clips specialize in herbal medicines, training regimens, and breathing techniques that help Tanjiro and company recover after the spider demon arc. Hopefully it involves more beautiful butterfly animation!

She has shoulder-length wavy hair that fades from black into dark purple, usually styled at the back of her head into a "yakai-maki" style and fastened with a white and purple butterfly ornament. She has split ear-length bangs that rise a little away from her head before falling down to frame her face, with two thinner chin-length strands below them. Shinobu is rather short in height and has been described as having a small and weak-looking build, which is later reinforced by her saying that she does not possess enough physical strength to cut a Demon 's head off as the other Hashira do.
According to Zenitsu AgatsumaShinobu is so cute, that she could easily make a living on her looks alone. Shinobu wears the standard Demon Slayer uniform with gold buttons, consisting of a dark-purple tinted straight-lined black jacket and hakama pants that are tucked into a butterfly pattern fabric around her lower legs.
She also wears a white haori that previously belonged to her older sister, which has a butterfly wing pattern that fades into a turquoise then pink color on the sleeves and bottom edges which are cuffed with a black and white dotted trim. She wears white sandals with purple straps for footwear.
When Shinobu was fourteen, her appearance was slightly different. Her chin-length strands of hair were tucked in, and she had a different Demon Slayer uniform consisting of silver buttons and a darker shade of purple. She also sported a plain white haori with it. Shinobu is rather laid-back, always having a smile on her face regardless of the situation she is in.
She seems to enjoy teasing others and can be rather sadistic about it, enjoying most notably to pick on Giyu Tomioka. It is later revealed that her outwardly calm and tranquil disposition is worn as a mask, as Shinobu holds an intense hatred for Demons due to the loss of her sister, Kanae Kochoat a young age, along with the deaths of her parents, most of her Tsugukoand the families of her apprentices at the Butterfly Mansion. This hatred is so strong that she is in a near-constant state of anger, which is sensed by Tanjiro Kamado when the two individuals hold a conversation.
Her desire for revenge rendered her unable to live the normal life her sister had wished upon her, instead devoting the entirety of her energy to defeating Demons. During her battle against DomaShinobu reveals that she also suffers from an inferiority complex due to her inferior physical abilities compared to her fellow Hashira, having been jealous of them for possessing taller or more muscular bodies than her and cursing her own for not developing further to make her more effective in combat.
Shinobu's younger self had a more brash and straightforward demeanor as seen when she and her sister rescued Kanao Tsuyuriwho she had a negative attitude towards raising. After the death of Kanae, however, Shinobu started outwardly behaving more like her sister and eventually developed her smile and attitude to match while internally holding in her rage.
While Shinobu may have been the only one of the Hashira incapable of beheading Demons, she is still just as deadly as they are. Shinobu Kocho Battles.Shinobu was born as the youngest daughter within the Kocho household, living alongside her mother, father and older sister Kanae. She was raised in a loving and caring household until her parents were slaughtered by Demons right before her and her sister's eyes. Just when the Demon was about to take the lives of her and her sister as well, they were saved by the Hashira, Gyomei Himejimawho slayed the Demon. Now more determined as a result of the pain and suffering they endured, Shinobu and Kanae both promised to become Demon Slayers to protect each other, as well as prevent other people from enduring the same losses they had to experience.
Eventually, after managing to move a boulder, they convinced Himejima to introduce them to a cultivator.
Later in her life, while accompanying her sister Kanae on a trip, the sisters encountered a young girl being led away as a slave on a bridge.
Intrigued by her, Kanae took an interest and decided to take the girl back to the Butterfly Estate, against Shinobu's initial wishes. They eventually purchased the girl, named Kanao Tsuyurifrom her master and trained her within the Butterfly Estate to become the next Tsuguko.
At the age of 14, she became the master of the Butterfly Estate in Kanae's place, since Kanae died at age Shinobu coddled the girls of the Butterfly Estate as if they were her own little sisters. Shinobu is present when Kagaya Ubuyashiki receives news of the situation unfolding at Natagumo Mountainand is given the order to travel there and assist the lower-ranked swordsmen.
Acknowledging this, the female Hashira states that it would be great if everyone could get along, regardless if they are human or Demon, and asks Giyu Tomioka if he agrees.
Much later, Shinobu appears before a heavily injured Zenitsu Agatsumagreeting him and asking him if he is alright. Startled, the Demon attacks the Demon Slayer with her strings, but Shinobu dodges them all effortlessly. Drawing her sword, Shinobu dryly comments that this attack means the Demon doesn't want to get along with her.
The elder sister Demon quickly begs Shinobu for mercy, stating that she would be killed if she disobeyed Rui. Shinobu, sympathizing with the creature's plight, says that she will cooperate with the Demon if she answers a few of Shinobu's questions, the first of which being how many people she had killed.
The Demon's answer is five, but Shinobu assures her that she doesn't have to lie, complimenting her string technique from earlier, and the Demon corrects her answer to eighty humans.
8 Shinobu Kocho Secrets Every Demon Slayer Fan Should Learn
Despite the creature's stubborn denial, the female swordsman notes that both of them came from the west side of the mountain, and, on that side, she had found forty of the Demon's cocoons. Shinobu adds that she isn't angry, only trying to be as accurate as possible. When asked what the point of checking this information is, Shinobu tells the elder sister Demon that in order for them to be friends and to satisfy those who have died, she will have to endure punishment, explaining in gruesome detail what she had in mind for this, and adding that the creature won't die from it, so there will be no aftereffects.
Enraged, the Demon attacks Shinobu again, but the female Demon Hunter quickly bypasses her, simultaneously landing her Insect Breathing, Butterfly Dance: Caprice attack on the creature. She laments the Demon's poor choice, turning and subsequently watching as the creature collapses. Shinobu tells the creature not to let her guard down just because she can't cut the Demon's head off since, she explains, she utilizes poison as her weapon instead. Shinobu then introduces herself as the Insect Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, stating that, although she may be the only one among her order to not possess the ability to cut off a Demon's head, poison that can kill the creatures is still a potent tool.
She then apologizes, realizing that the elder sister Demon is already dead and couldn't hear her explanation. Shinobu then proceeds to cut open the Demon's silk cocoon, freeing Murata. She asks him if he is alright, and he asks what happened to the older sister Demon, to which she answers that she had killed the Demon with poison from the wisteria flower, commenting afterwards on how lucky he is for only having his clothes melted off by the creature's attack.
She later attempts to attack Tanjiro and Nezuko, but her attack is deflected by Giyu. She questions his interference, noting that if he continues this course of action, everyone would hate him. She then turns her attention to Tanjiro, telling him that he is protecting a Demon and that he should get away from her.
The young Demon Slayer exclaims that Nezuko is his sister, causing Shinobu to take pity on her and plan to kill her with a toxin that inflicts no pain. Giyu then instructs Tanjiro to run, which Shinobu notes to be a violation of Demon Slayer's conduct. She is also Shinobu's former Tsuguko.
Kanao is a young girl with large, gentle eyes of a pink-lilac color that are framed by thick eyelashes. She has thin black hair, worn tied into a ponytail on the right side of her head and fastened by a pink and green butterfly ornament that once belonged to her adoptive sister, Kanae Kocho.
Kanao wears a slightly purple-tinted version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, just with a knee-length pleated skirt in place of the usual hakama pants. Over this, she wears a short white cloak, fastened on one side by a dark pink triple knot, also sporting knee-high lace-up white boots with tan soles, heels and toes.
When Kanao reappears after the events of the Entertainment District Archer appearance changes as she stops wearing her white cloak, opting to wear only her plain Demon Slayer uniform instead. After her battle with DomaKanao begins to wear Shinobu Kocho 's hairpin rather than Kanae's as the latter's shattered as a result of her battle. She also loses the ability to see out of her right eye due to her using Flower Breathing 's final form to take out the Upper Rank, with her eye gaining a defined pupil with a dark ring around it and becoming deprived of its gradient.
When Kanao is first introduced, she is an indecisive and quiet girl due to the abuse she endured before meeting the Kocho sisters. In order to help rectify this, Kanae gave her a coin to flip to decide which path to follow when she didn't know what to do. For many years, Kanao continued to show little emotion or desire.
Despite this, after seeing what demons did to AoiKiyoand Shinobu's loved ones, Kanao developed a strong hatred against demons directly from her own will.
Initially, Shinobu instructed Kanao to simply cut off demon heads without thinking, since Kanao had no will of her own. However, Kanao also eventually developed her own desire to fight. Despite her perceived lack of emotion or desire, Kanao defied Shinobu and Kanae's wishes and took the final selection of her own volition, which would imply that her will had been strengthening all along.
Between Kanae's death and the Rehabilitation Training Arcshe recovers slightly but still relies on her coin to make decisions. She displays a somewhat mechanical response in conversations; when Tanjiro Kamado approaches her to bid to her farewell, she repeats "goodbye" when he attempts to continue the conversation.
She also gains the ability to speak unambiguously.
Kanao gradually becomes able to express her emotions and wants more openly, as seen when Tanjiro recovers from his injuries and she displays relief, when she tells Shinobu that she wishes to train alongside her, and when she expresses shock and distress at Shinobu's plan to defeat Doma. In her battle against DomaKanao takes uncharacteristically sadistic glee in pointing out his own lack of emotions.
Fueled by hatred and spite due to her sisters' deaths by his hand, she attacks him verbally to the point where he drops his normal carefree demeanor. She shows immense rage at the Demon's taunts, insulting him and telling him to shut up, which is a complete step up from the original emotionally distant relationship she had with her comrades. Later, during the final battle against Muzan KibutsujiKanao was shown to have completely regained the ability to properly express her emotions and make her own choices.
Over the course of the battle, Kanao shows visible feelings of anger and terror towards the Demon progenitor as her and her fellow Demon Slayers take him on. Even after the battle is over she continues to show emotion, proving herself to genuinely love and care for both Tanjiro and Nezuko after watching the latter's desperate attempts to reach out to her now Demon brother, which even reached the point of her sacrificing her one remaining eye to inject Tanjiro with Tamayo's humanization drug in an attempt to save him.
Kanao is the Tsuguko of Kanae and Shinobu and has been personally trained by the both of them in the art of combat. As such, Kanao possesses superhuman physical skills, abilities and prowess that potentially marks her as a future member of Demon Slayer Corps' Hashira.
Tanjiro, another promising candidate, even states that, during their first meeting together, he could already sense that Kanao was the closest to the Hashira out of the existing Demon Slayers, just by smelling her scent and feeling her aura, which further confirms her skills. Sunrise Countdown Arc.

Arc Fatigue : While the bulk of the Infinity Castle arc is very well received, the final battle against Muzan himself once the Castle collapses has had a more lukewarm reception, as most consider Muzan a rather boring antagonist compared to the Twelve Kizuki.
Additionally, his fighting style consists entirely of flailing several tentacles and abusing his high level of regeneration, which makes a rather repetitive and boring fight, especially compared to the more complicated fights against Kokushibo, Doma and Akazaall of whom use a myriad of different techniques and abilities instead of just using small variations of the same one.
Even when he is finally killed, the arc refuses to end, with Tanjiro being brought back from the dead by him and turned into a demon, becoming the manga's Post-Final Boss. Ass Pull : Arguably several, which some attribute to the series' fast pace and reliance on flashbacks. Show Spoilers. How well does it match the trope? Some of these ships are genuinely good - that's because they make sense within the series and feature two characters who have a genuine connection instead of, say, a forged bond ; however, some ships, in particular, are so bad that they make you want to take a long, cold shower to cleanse yourself of the atrocity you just witnessed.
In this article, we'll be looking at both these kinds of Demon Slayer ships - the good and the bad. We will be bringing up major plot details from both the anime and the manga so, if you're not caught up yet, please be careful and watch out for spoilers.

Lacie•Louis — Shinobu’s death 💔🥺 She was my favorite character...
The Pillars have always been popular fuel for fan works, due to their individual personalities and unique bond as servants to one cause. According to series canon, Obanai loves Mitsuri greatly but has trouble expressing his feelings for her due to his desire to protect her from his troubled past, while she obviously has a special connection with him but is rather oblivious to how much he truly cares for her.
Fans of this relationship don't consider it to be as one-sided as it initially appears, and they're right in the respect that there are many moments throughout the series when it is painted as more than just a casual friendship - whether or not that means it could eventually become canon is anyone's guess.
While this ship isn't really the worst of the worst, it's become so popular amongst members of the Demon Slayer fandom that we have to bring it up. While Zenitsu and Uzui do technically interact over the course of the series, really, their only shared trait is their similar hearing abilities, which is by no means basis for a library's worth of fanfiction. Plus, the significant age difference between the two, paired with the fact that Uzui has three wives, just makes this bizarre ship even more uncomfortable to think about.
There's just no reason why this should exist. While some fans of the series object to this ship especially considering Zenitsu's problematic attitude towards women early oneven they can't deny that, within the context of the series, it does make enough sense to possibly become canon in the future. Zenitsu does seem to show a much more passive, human love for Nezuko than what he's shown to others in the past, and many fans find his desire to protect her genuine. She's also shown to enjoy his company, even if she's not ready to reciprocate his affection just yet.
This ship is actually not as bad of an idea as it sounds at first, but it's still kind of messed up, for the same reason almost every ship involving Muzan is messed up; he's a terrible person - er, demon. And if you change his personality to make him seem less evil, well, then he's not Muzan - he's just some well-spoken Michael Jackson lookalike. Try to come back from that one, AO3.
This is one of Demon Slayer 's most popular slash ships in terms of fan following behind Sabito x Giyuu and Zenitsu x Tanjiroand it's easy to see why. While the interactions between Tanjirou and Inosuke are initially confrontational, Tanjirou's kindness is shown to have a positive effect on his teammate. And despite their differences, the two do make a pretty good team; eventually, they even have a noticeable camaraderie as both friends and allies.
Even if it never becomes canon, at least this ship will live on in Demon Slayer history as one of few ships that most of the fandom could actually agree on liking. If you are 18 years or older or are comfortable with graphic material, you are free to view this page.

Shinobu at one point wished that humans and demons could become friends and would sometime offer to befriend her enemies. But that belief was shattered after her older sister Kanae was killed. Unwilling to heed Kanae's dying wish for Shinobu to leave Demon Slayer Corps until she kills the Demon who took Kanae from her, Shinobu had been hunting down Demons, hoping one day she would meet her older sister's killer.
Shinobu would still offer Demons forgiveness - if they voluntarily undergo excruciating torture engineered by Shinobu herself as a restitution for their crimes of harming humans. She is voiced by Saori Hayami in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Erika Harlacher in the English version of the anime. Shinobu is regarded as a beautiful, petite young girl with a small frame. This leads people to underestimate her due to her frail appearance.
She has black hair with purple highlighted tips tied back into a bun using a butterfly-shaped pin. She has large deep purple eyes with no visible pupils and maintains an innocent look on her face most of the time. Shinobu dons the standard Demon Slayer uniform that consists of a dark purple straight-lined jacket, and hakama pants tucked into butterfly patterned fabric around her lower legs that match her haori.
Her signature white haori has a butterfly wing pattern that mimics the appearance of butterfly wings whenever she moves. The white of the haori fades into turquoise and then pink color on her sleeves as well as the base of the dress and her legs.
Her sleeves are cuffed with a black and white dotted trim similar to an insect design. She completes her outfit by wearing white sandals with purple straps and a white belt that holds her sword sheath. Shinobu always appeared to be a calm and friendly girl, almost to an unsettling degree.
She often greets others by saying "woo-hoo" after suddenly showing up next to them, often startling others. But beneath her smile actually lies ferocious and hot-headed girl and it is revealed that her smile was Shinobu's last respect to carry one Kanae's personality to remember her.
Despite her bubbly demeanor, Shinobu has a strong sense of justice and is more than willing to brutally punish demons for bringing harm to humanity.
